Current Obsession : Chevron

Chevron is everywhere and just like everyone else, I am in complete love with it. Since we are in the process of moving, I will hold off on painting a chevron accent wall, but there are lots of other ways to add this pattern to your home and closet. Chevron is a little bit funk, a little bit traditional and it is because of this that it works so well regardless of your personal style. The pattern comes in virtually any color combination and it is a great way to tie pieces together of varying colors. Here are some of my favorite chevron finds.

Friday Five

1. Marc Jacobs Muscle Man Doll - Back in November Marc Jacobs was featured on South Park as one of Cartman's Dolls. Well, The designer and the makers of South Park have teamed up to make an actual plush doll of Marc - exactly like the Muscle Man Marc one Cartman played with on the show. It is a limited edition and I cannot wait to get my hands on one!
Available here

2. Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious - I have very thick, wavy hair. It used to be pin straight, but over the years it has taken on a nice wave. I do not like to spend a lot of time fixing my hair and in a perfect world, I would wake up each morning with waves like Giselle without ever having to do anything. Well this line from Bumble and Bumble is the next best thing. I start out with the curl conscious shampoo and conditioner and, after towel drying my hair, I work the holding foam in and I am left with gorgeous waves. No drying, no frizz, no styling required. I don't have curly hair so I cannot vouch for how it holds up on tight curls, but my hair stays put all day and night without any crunchiness, stickiness or wet look.
Available here

3. Painted Amaryllis Measuring Cups: I may or may not have a slight Anthropologie addiction. Addiction or not, these measuring cups are so gorgeous I might be inclined to cook more if I had them. There are four cups in the set: 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup. They are stoneware and safe for the dishwasher and microwave.

Available here

4. Special K's Real Women - Just as Dove did a few years ago, Special K is using real women of all shapes and sizes in its new ad campaign. They ads emphasize how we feel about our bodies rather than how we look. Body confidence is key to this campaign. Special K intends to inspire women to eat healthy and focus on how you feel rather than what you will lose. Currently, the campaign is running in the U.K., but hopefully it will come to the United States.
5. Red Velvet Waffles - Go ahead. Spoil dad and the rest of the family Sunday with this amazing recipe.

Friday Five: Summer Beauty Edition

Happy Friday! I hope you have a great weekend. Since summer is (unofficially) here, I wanted to share my favorite summer beauty products. They stand up to the heat, sweating and help prevent you from becoming a hot mess (haha!). Enjoy.

1. Tokyo Milk Dark in Bittersweet: With fragrance notes of cake flour and dark cacao bean, you would think that this perfume is too sweet, but it is not. It is the perfect mix of sweet and musky. It is rich and light enough to wear during the day. This scent is unique and fun and I guarantee you will get plenty of compliments if you wear it.
 Buy it here.

2. L'Oreal EverStrong Overnight Hair Repair Treatment: This fast-absorbing treatment is sulfate free and works to strengthen your hair while you sleep. In the morning, after you wash your hair, you are left with soft, smooth hair - no frizz. There is no oily residue left. Just great hair.

Buy it here.

3. Coola MineralBaby Moisturizer Suncare, SPF 45 Unscented: Coola is a natural and organic sunblock that moisturizes. It is hypoallergenic, paraben and preservative free. Translation - it is gentle and unlike many sunblocks will not cause breakouts.

Buy it here.

4. Shaveworks' The Cool Fix: This works for the girls and guys. The cool fix helps to exfoliate your skin so razor bumps and ingrown hairs don't occur. Perfect for your bikini area, under arms and face. It also offers soothing relief for irritated areas.

Buy it here.

5. Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream EyeShadow: Don't you hate it when you sweat and your makeup melts off or cracks? Well, with this eyeshadow you wont have to worry about that. It has a slight bit of shimmer, so a little goes a long way.

Buy it here.

Current Obsession: The Pixie Haircut

Since I was 13, I have had short hair on and off. Cutting all my hair off the summer before 8th grade was scandalous. At a time when young girls were trying to find themselves and hide behind makeup, I desperately wanted to stand out and be different. I wore glow in the dark zebra converse while my classmates wore the ultra cool L.A. Gear sneakers. Cutting all of my hair off was a bit traumatic. I saved my ponytail in a bag for almost 4 years, but I loved it. This may have a lot to do with my NKOTB obsession - my haircut inspiration was Donnie Wahlberg. Yes, I did have a rat tail. Yes, it was awesome.

Over the last twenty years, I have let my hair grow and cut it off again about 5 more times. Each time, I go back to the pixie cut. In my opinion this is the best haircut on the planet. It shows off beautiful features like big eyes. It flatters many face shapes and takes ZERO time to style in the morning. Got Bedhead? Good, because the pixie cut looks awesome when it is messy. I loved being able to jump out of bed, throw some pomade on my hair, run my fingers thru it and leave.

Right now, my hair is past the middle of my back. Everyone loves it - except me (and maybe my husband). My sister begs me not to cut it. My mother tells me how nice it looks. I do not think my hair has ever been this long and I am truly bored with it and tired of brushing out knots. Short hair is not for everyone. It takes guts. There were many times I was told when I had short hair that I had guts/balls/moxie, but I just felt liberated. I want to feel that way again!

Has there ever been a more beautiful woman? Audrey rocked the pixie like no other
